#ABLIBPIC. Annie-Belle Liberty

So cute and very dressed up in her patriotic dress.  Annie-Belle will be a great addition to any Americana collection or as part of your 4th of July celebrations.

Annie-Belle Liberty  is one of my original designs and has been hand-stitched on coffee stained muslin in an array of patriotic colors.

Her country red dress is accented with dark blue sections on the sleeves and the bottom of the gown.  There are several antique gold stars at the bottom of her dress.

The large star behind her and her "crown" are stitched in antique gold.  Her eyes are tiny black glass beads and a bit of blush is added to her cheeks.   Her hair is stitched in the same country red as the dress.

The handmade black frame is lightly sanded to compliment the stained fabric for a time worn aged appearance.

This picture is approximately 10 x 12 inches.

#AM-BOARD. Americana Stars Wood Breadboard
This handpainted Americana themed wood breadboard with it's red, white and blue primitive stars will look wonderful sitting along a sideboard, on top of a cupboard or displayed along a bench with your other Americana decor.

The board is basecoated in a misty gray and has been heavily sanded along the edges to give it a time-worn aged look. Then it's been highlighted with a wash of black along the sides.

The stars are painted with traditional dark Americana colors and then heavily sanded to give an aged, faded look. The board has been splattered black and sealed with a satin finish protective coating.

A piece of black check homespun has been tied to the handle and a hole has been drilled for hanging.

The board measures approximately 5 1/2 inches wide x 11 inches tall and 3/4 inches thick.

#AM-MRSDS. Mr. Scare D. Snow - Americana
This primitive snowman will bring a touch of whimsy to your winter and holiday decor.

Mr. Scare D. Snow is a Wandering Whimsies original primitive design made from coffee dyed warm and natural and then generously stained.

Each one of these snowmen is unique and no two will be alike due to the staining, handstitching and the snowman's shape (not from a pattern).

His face is hand stitched and I've added small black beads for his eyes.   His hat is made from stiffened black felt rubbed with cinnamon and tied with jute.

He is firmly stuffed with a weighted bottom to keep him standing.  Sticks have been added for his arms and his coat is sewn from scraps of homespun or calico.  Two rusty bells adorn the front of Mr. Scare D. Snow and a scarf of coffee-dyed cheesecloth has been wrapped around his neck.  A sprinkling of mica flakes have been added along the edges of the scarf.  (The mica flakes show up very shiny in photos due to the light.)

Mr. Scare D. Snowman is approximately 9 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The perfect size for your mantle or shelf.  He could nestle in a wreath or even among the branches of your tree.

#AMD. Primitive Americana Donkey

A very primitive pair...the Republican Elephant and the Democratic Donkey...

In November 1874, cartoonist Thomas Nash (for Harper's Weekly) came up with the American symbols of the elephant and donkey to represent our nation's two main political parties for one of his political cartoons.

I've created my own primitive version of these two American symbols by adapting a Leisure Arts pattern.   Separately or as a pair, these will make a really unique and eye-catching addition to your Americana decor or Independence Day celebrations.

Please note:  These have been very heavily stained and "aged" to give an old antique feel.  I wanted them to look as though they may have been around in 1874.

My patriotic primitive Americana donkey has been sewn from heavily coffee-stained blue mattress ticking and firmly stuffed.   I have sewn the legs onto the body (the legs move slightly for posing) and added dark buttons for accent.

The donkey's ears have been sewn on, there are black beads for it's eyes and his mane and tail are made from jute which are sewn on to it's body.

I've added a collar made of rusty wire and have added 3 prim salt dough stars (2 dark blue, 1 white) which dangle from the collar.

In the donkey's hand I have placed a handmade stars and stripes pennant which has been coffee-stained and then stiffened to look wavy.  The pennant is made from dark red stripe material with a square of navy blue which has a rusty 1 inch star on it.  I've stitched around the pennant with black thread and attached it to a stick.

#FREEANNIE. Freedom Annie

Such a perfect Americana Raggedy for your home!

Freedom Annie is approximately 32 inches tall and her wings are approximately 17 inches from tip to tip.  Her body is made from coffee dyed muslin and then has been heavily stained for an aged appearance.  I've also coffee-dyed and heavily stained the fabric for her wings, dress and pinafore.

Her face has been handstitched with black and country red thread and small beads have been used for her eyes.  Her cheeks have been lightly blushed with pink powder.  Annie's hair has been fashioned from dark barn red wool yarn and is sewn onto her head.   A bow which matches the blue dress has been added.

Annie's dress is sewn from a country blue cotton fabric which has off white stars and swirls all over the fabric.  I've added muslin cuffs to the sleeves on which I've stitched a row of X's from country red thread.  The dress is approximately 22 inches long and mostly covered by the pinafore.

Annie's pinafore has been sewn from an off-white cotton fabric which has tiny pin-point blue and red stars all over and the bottom part of the pinafore is made from a coordinating country red fabric that has lighter red stars and blue dots scattered across the fabric.  I've added a section of muslin between the red fabric on which I've stitched " xx FREEDOM x LIFE x LIBERTY xx" in a country blue thread and outlined with country red stitches.  The pinafore straps are attached with buttons I've sewn on and a piece of the red fabric has been added around her waist and tied in the back.  Annie's pinafore is approximately 22 inches long in both the front and back of the doll.

The wings are made from a light blue pinstripe cotton fabric and backed with canvas.  I've sewn a pocket onto the back of the wings and inserted a 3/16 inch wide dowel, which will keep the wings upright for you.  I've added 6 rusty stars ( 1 inch and 1 1/4 inch) along the wings.  Additionally, I've sewn the wings to her body and added a sturdy cotton thread for hanging.

Lastly, Annie is holding a 5 1/2 inch rusted barn star in her hands, which has been sewn into her hands.

Created from a pattern designed by Lisa at The Plum Patch.
